Oppenheimer and Succession dominate at the 81st Golden Globe® Awards

Tonight, Monday 8 January, M-Net Movies 1 will broadcast the popular Golden Globe® Awards at 21:00. The annual award ceremony, which honours the best in film and television, saw Christopher Nolan's epic film Oppenheimer take home five Golden Globes and the satirical comedy-drama television series Succession take home four. 

Viewers can watch these award-winning titles on the home of entertainment, DStv. All four seasons of Succession are available to binge on DStv Stream and Showmax, and Oppenheimer is available for rent on DStv BoxOffice for just R40.

Highlights from the awards

  • Barbie and Succession received the most nominations with nine each, followed by Oppenheimer with 8. 
  • Oppenheimer took home: 

Best Motion Picture – Drama
Best Director – Motion Picture, Christopher Nolan
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama – Cillian Muphy
Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture – Robert Downey Jr
Best Original Score, Motion Picture – Ludwig Göransson

The inaugural Box Office Achievement Award, after grossing $1.4 billion worldwide 
Best Original Song for 'What Was I Made For?' by Billie Eilish O'Connell and Finneas O'Connell

  • Succession received the most wins in the series category, securing awards for:

Best TV Series, Drama
Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama – Sarah Snook
Best Actor in a TV series, Drama – Kieran Culkin
Best Supporting Actor, Television – Matthew Macfadye
