Celebrating and embracing cultural diversity.

In South Africa, Heritage Day is celebrated annually on 24 September.

With this day coming up, we've rounded up a few facts that you should know.

From Shaka Day to Heritage Day

In the province of KwaZulu-Natal, Heritage Day was Shaka Day – a day commemorating the king of the Zulu nation. The government then opted for a day everyone in South Africa could relate to, and Heritage Day was born.

Who wants to braai?

This one will make a lot of meat lovers happy. Unofficially, Heritage Day is also known as Braai Day. Nothing brings South Africans together quite like a braai and a few cold ones on ice.

Celebrating South African cultures

Heritage Day is inclusive of all cultures in South Africa. In fact, on this day, South Africans are encouraged to tap into the diverse and vibrant range of cultures that make up the rainbow nation.

Whether with a braai or attending various cultural events, have fun channelling your inner South African.
