Movie stars have been making so many migrations to television, itโ€™s hardly surprising to see them on our small screens these days. Weโ€™ve even written about it before.ย ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Now weโ€™re writing about it again, because what jumped out at us upon choosing hot new shows to watch was how many Oscar-winning and nominated actors are currently on M-Net 101. Take a star-studded scroll below.

Barkhad Abdi
Abdi shot to stardom in his acting debut, portraying Abduwali Muse in Captain Phillips, alongside Tom Hanks. It landed Adbi an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2013. Since then heโ€™s stayed busy, appearing in Eye in the Sky, Grimsby, and Blade Runner 2049. You may even have spotted him on M-Net before, because heโ€™s been in Hawaii Five-0 and a regular on Castle Rock. Now you can watch him in The Curse, which airs every Thursday at 21:00 (right after local thriller White Lies).

You can also catch up on The Curse on DStv Stream here.

Emma Stone
Starring alongside Abdi is two-time Oscar winner Stone. She made a name for herself in a slew of comedies and rom-coms, but especially with Easy A. In 2017, she won her first Oscar for her singing, dancing role in La La Land. This year, in a moment that surprised everyone (including Stone!) she won her second Oscar. Many thought Killers of the Flower Moonโ€™s Lily Gladstone had it in the bag, and Stone stumbled onto stage in astonishment clutching her ripped dress in one hand and her Oscar in the other. But for her virtuoso performance in Poor Things, she definitely deserved it. Poor Things is currently available to rent on BoxOffice and you can also watch her with Adbi in The Curse.

Jodie Foster
Like Stone, Foster has two acting Oscars to her name. She won in 1989 for The Accused and in 1992 for The Silence of the Lambs. This year she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Nyad. You can currently watch her in True Detective: Night Country, the fourth season of the highly popular anthology series.

Watch True Detective: Night Country every Wednesday at 21:00 on M-Net or catch up on DStv Stream here.

Kate Winslet
Winslet has been nominated seven times at the Oscars, winning in 2009 for her role in The Reader. On television, sheโ€™s become quite the HBO darling, and we are here for it. In 2011, she starred in Mildred Pierce, in 2021 in Mare of Easttown, and now sheโ€™s starring as fictional dictator Elena Vernham in The Regime โ€“ all from HBO.ย Another great perk of The Regime is that it reunites Winslet with her Sense and Sensibility co-star Hugh Grant.

Watch The Regime on Mondays at 20:00 on M-Net or catch up on DStv Stream here.

Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood have collaborated three times, and always memorably. The first time was for Unforgiven in 1992, then in 2004 for Million Dollar Baby, and in 2010 for Invictus. Million Dollar Baby landed Freeman his first Oscar while Invictus earned him a nomination for playing our very own Madiba. Now you can watch Freeman in Special Ops: Lioness, a new thriller created by Tyler Sheridan who also created Tulsa King and co-created M-Net fan favourite Yellowstone, and its spinoffs.

Watchย Special Ops: Lionessย on Mondays at 21:00 on M-Net or catch up on DStv Stream here.

Nicole Kidman
Special Ops is a double whammy because it also features five-time Oscar nominee Nicole Kidman. In 2003, she won Best Actress for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours. And sheโ€™s also already graced our small screens with her brilliant work in Big Little Lies and The Undoing.
