Lucas Rap is definitely UP NEXT! And that next is now, as the Durban native on Friday delighted fans with the release of his highly anticipated debut studio album, 031 To The World.
It's a declaration of a splashy entrance into the global mainstream; 031 being the phone area code for Durban, where Lucas Raps grew up dreaming and honing his techniques. The plan is going pretty well. After dropping out of school in 2018 to pursue his musical career full time, the rapper wasted no time.
Now signed to Def Jam Africa, the tape arrives as a manifesto to the return of hardcore rap to the new school scape.
The 11 track project finds Lucas Raps, real name Luke Duncan Malong, delivering bold flows and melodies on a cohesive set of joints produced by a slew of new age Hip Hop incumbents including Gemini Major, Christer and Vaughn. Fourie. Spanning 26 minutes of new material, the tape is a confident debut from the rapper. "This is why God chose me", is the first line in the album, setting in motion a catalogue rejoicing in triumphs and breakthroughs.
