Claustrophobia, captured on TV 24/7. The housemates cope by leaning back on some critical life skills.
Two people survey an assemblage of amateur art

These coping mechanisms are were not acquired during lockdown – in fact, many sprang out of boarding school. Big Brother Boarding School, anyone?

In their own words, here they are:

Blaqboi

“Secondary school boarding house.” Enough said.

Blue Aiva

“Firstly, I am a spiritual being and take my traditions very seriously, so in my culture you have to go through an initiation where you are taught life lessons and growth, like how to be a woman, how to act etc. It took me a period of two months staying indoors in a room where no one can see you only the elders and girls who have already passed through the initiation called 'ukuthomba’ in the Ndebele culture.”

Ebubu

“The outreach I did as a theatres student.” Time well spent, beautiful Ebubu.

Ipeleng

“I was always at home.” That'll do it, Ipeleng.

Juicy Jay

“Undergoing traditional school as part of my my cultural journey of being a man played a huge part in me being prepared for BB house lockdown.” And rucks.

Justin

“Being broke and unemployed and having to stay home (not by choice LOL).” Who took care of your hair game then, Justin?

Kanaga Jnr

“My journey through life as and how I have fought and overcome different challenges.” That finger for a start.

Khosi

“I don't think anything can prepare one for Biggie's house other than the lockdown prior going in. However I am a bit of a loner, so perhaps that.” Sure, Khosi ...

Miracle OP

“Being in boarding school when I was younger has definitely helped.”

Nana

"An experience that has prepared me for life in lockdown in BB house is when my phone got spoilt and I have to stay without a phone for two months.' Shoulda tried rotaries ...

Nelisa

“My love of putting myself in weird, awkward positions and navigating through them seamlessly.” Now for that awkwardness with Thabang …

Olivia

“I stayed at boarding school for six years.”

Thabang

“Growing up in Diepkloof and Zondi I learnt a lot about living with people. I had a lot of experiences that played a large role in shaping me into who am I am today. As well as having the privilege to co-ed school where I was surrounded by people from different ethnic backgrounds.” Variety is the spice of life, T.

Tsatsii

“Not going to school and being in the house all day.” School sucks ...

Yemi Cregx

“I fell severely ill that I could not leave my bedroom.” Seems extreme, but it’s on-theme for the week, Yemi.

Yvonne

“None”. She just needed something Juicy ...
