The long-awaited second season of Market Queens kicked off on Akwaaba Magic (DStv CH 150 | GOtv CH 102) with an episode that wasted no time throwing viewers right back into the chaos. The premiere episode wasted no time reminding us why this show is Ghana’s favourite market drama.
The episode opens under the cover of darkness in Tesano Market. Yaaba – who many viewers still remember as the queen of controversies – is seen quietly packing up and skipping town. She had collected money from several Tesano traders with the promise of supplying them with fast-moving products to sell. Instead of delivering, she disappears into the night, leaving angry creditors in her wake.
Yaaba doesn’t go far – she ends up in Asafo Market, ready to start her hustle all over again. Her first mission? Find the market queen of Asafo. But she quickly learns that the current queen, Yaa Yeboah, is no longer in power… because she’s on the run too!
Yaa Yeboah had pulled the same move: collected cash from market women to supply beauty products, only for the goods to arrive fake and worthless. The furious Asafo traders chased her out, and now she’s a fugitive just like Yaaba.
In one unexpected twist, the two swindlers literally bump into each other in a narrow alley while both trying to escape their pasts. They exchange quick, suspicious glances, say nothing, and hurry off in opposite directions – unaware they’ve just crossed paths with their mirror image.
Later, Yaaba overhears a group of angry Asafo women cursing Yaa Yeboah’s name and describing exactly what happened. The realisation hits her like a thunderbolt: “That woman I bumped into… that was Yaa Yeboah!” Yaaba regrets not stopping her, muttering that she could have watched Yaa Yeboah face the full wrath of the mob.
Just when Yaaba thinks she’s safe to plot her next move, her phone rings. It’s a mysterious caller – no name, just a voice that sends chills down her spine.
The episode ends on a classic Market Queens cliffhanger: Who called Yaaba? What do they want? And how long before both Yaaba and Yaa Yeboah’s pasts catch up with them?
One thing is clear – Season 2 is already delivering the suspense, the hustle, and the drama we love.
