19 May 2023
Everything you need to know about the ninth AMVCA red carpet and main event.

Africa’s biggest film and television stars gather to celebrate the work they have put in to keep us entertained, and you have a front row seat! Get ready to watch all the glam of the ninth AMVCAs from the comfort of your own home, or wherever you are, should you have good internet connection. Here’s how!

Red Carpet

The ninth edition of the AMVCAs kicks off with the Red Carpet Show at 16:00 WAT (17:00 CAT) on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, where our fashionable red carpet correspondents, Toke Makinwa, Sir Uti, Sika Osei and VJ Adams, will be chatting to celebrities and guests donning their finest for the night. The red carpet is indeed a must-see on awards night, as guests always deliver breathtaking and iconic outfits. Get your friends together, grab some snacks and get ready to play ‘fashion police’ alongside the rest of the continent this Saturday afternoon. Don’t forget to live-Tweet your fashion commentary using #AMVCA9 and #AMVCA! Far from your television? No problem! You can stream live on the DStv App too.

Best Dressed selection

The coveted ‘Best Dressed Male’ and ‘Best Dressed Female’ prize is up for grabs on the night in this edition too – and as usual, YOU get to pick your winner! How? Attendees interested in being considered for this award are to be on the Red Carpet between 16:00 WAT (17:00 CAT) and 17:30 WAT (18:30 CAT) to have their pictures taken in our specially designed AMVCA photo booth. The Top 20; 10 men and 10 women, will be shortlisted by the AMVCA Style Council and shared on Africa Magic’s Instagram page @africamagic. YOU will be given the opportunity to select your winner by using the ‘Like’ icon for your favourite best-dressed guest between 6pm and 8pm. The male and female pictures with the highest ‘Likes’ will win the coveted awards and will then be announced on stage. Be sure to keep an eye on our IG feed around that time and follow all the interviews and action from the carpet on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv at 16:00 WAT (17:00 CAT).

Main Award Show

At 19:00 WAT (20:00 CAT) we move on to the main business of the night where our hosts IK Osakioduwa and Miss Universe 2019, the flawless Zozi Tunzi, will anchor a night of big wins, unforgettable speeches in what promises to be the most spectacular celebration of Africa’s film and television talent.

Reasons to watch

There are plenty reasons, but here are a few to whet your appetite as you prepare for a star-studded night.

The fashion

The night of the AMVCAs has become synonymous with ‘drip is forever’ and we cannot wait for the cameras to immortalise the excellence that will be on display at the Red Carpet and Main Event. Our Red Carpet Hosts are style icons in their own right and the Main Event Hosts; well, come on –  it’s IK and Zozi. When have either of these two disappointed?

Our Hosts with the most

Speaking of hosts need we say more about Nigieria’s Ik and well Africa’s prize, Zozi Tunzi. Hosting the biggest LIVE shows on the continent, beauty pageants, radio shows and television shows between them, the duo’s professionalism is remarkable. This is Zozi’s first time on the AMVCA stage, so we are looking forward to seeing her dazzle on stage. IK on the other hand is a show favourite and back for the ninth edition on the AMVCA stage.

The big winners

The most important part of the evening? Watching the best in the business walk away with trophies for a job well done! We can’t wait to hear those moving speeches and see the tears of joy that will overflow on our stage.

Watch the ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards LIVE on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv this Saturday at 16:00 WAT (17:00 CAT). Stream live on the DStv App too.
