Nigerian Idol Reminds Us Why We Love the Show with Heartwarming Season Opener - Nigerian Idol

23 April 2024
A star-studded panel, stellar and hilarious performances and heartwarming stories. Nigerian Idol is back!
Nigerian Idol S9

The popular singing competition, Nigerian Idol, is back with a bang! The new season returned to light up our screens on the evening of Sunday, 21 April, 2024. And if the first episode is anything to go by, then fans are in for a thrilling musical journey filled with fresh talent and a star-studded judging panel.

The first episode introduced viewers to two of the three judges: renowned musicians Omawumi and Ric Hassani, who are set to lend their expertise and guide this year's batch of talented musicians. The panel is set to be completed by none other than the iconic ‘Gongo Aso’ chanteur and icon 9ice. However, Emem, a guest judge, joined Omawumi and Ric Hassani for the first round of auditions.

From all over Nigeria, hopefuls trooped in to showcase their talents, hoping their “Dreams Take Off” just as the season's theme suggests. From piano duets and solo acts to acoustic performances, fans were treated to the soul-stirring music that has endeared them to the show through the years.

One of the standout performances was Tari, from Port Harcourt, whose stellar performance earned him a coveted golden ticket. Another contestant got lucky; as she celebrated her birthday during the auditions and was serenaded by Omawumi and Ric Hassani before clinching a golden ticket – a birthday memory to cherish.

Of course, Nigerian Idol wouldn’t be complete without its trademark hilarious auditions and heartwarming moments. Just as there was happiness for those who received golden tickets, there was disappointment for those who didn’t.

With fans eagerly awaiting the introduction of the third judge, 9ice, as well as the new twists that the season brings, viewers and music lovers can anticipate more drama, more talent discovery and more music in the episodes to come.

Nigerian Idol airs every Sunday at 7 PM on the following Africa Magic Channels - Showcase (DStv Channel 151, GOtv Channel 12) and Family (DStv Channel 154, GOtv Channel 2).
