The ‘it runs in the family’ notion has been used so often that we’ve nailed on the wall of all things cliché and absolutely refuse to absorb generational glory but like many of her peers, Teniola Apata is blazing trails 'hereditarily'.
Show us a two year old that had the beat of the drum on perfect lock down and we might just give up all of the Naira in our piggy bank. Teni’s love for all things rhythm and blues is definitely gene-deep and continues to ignite her prowess despite always being compared to her afro powerhouse sister, Niniola.
While her peers archived tongue-out selfies and 'abs in the making' vines, Teni used social media platforms as a window through which she’d share her art and introduce ‘volumous’ sound styles that would help forge a musical revolution. Her breakthrough song ‘Fargin’ grabbed the right kind of attention and raised a few expensively groomed eyebrows; taking her as far as writing the song ‘Like Dat’ for Davido and having lose our morals on the dancefloor. Wehdon mam.
From ‘Amen’ to Askama, we’re completely submerged in Teni the Entertainer’s groupie pool and judging by her laid back musical take and striking relevance, we’ll be groupying for a long time abi! If you missed out on Teni’s chilled vibes with mawuli on this week’s 53Extra, get a spoon and indulge down below.
