Here are all our favourite things from the AMVCAs!

We came, we saw, we conquered – and we did it in high style.
A man and woman

The ninth edition of the AMVCAs took over Lagos this past weekend for a spectacular awards night that will be remembered for many months to come.

The stars came dressed to the nines and there was electrifying entertainment all night long, the perfect accompaniment for the emotional winner speeches that coloured our stage.

Before we get into it, remember you can watch the rebroadcast of the AMVCA 9 Red Carpet and Awards Show on Africa Magic Urban Africa Magic Family, Africa Magic Urban  and Africa Magic Showcase this week.

Here are some of our favourite moments from the event.

Your tweets

African fashion and film aficionados, plus celebrity and urban culture connoisseurs assembled from all corners of the Twitter-verse to give commentary from behind their phone screens – and we couldn’t be more entertained! Here are some that we loved:

The African Vibe

The opening night set the theme for African diversity and we saw our stars repping their African culture. Our sponsors also came to play with some fun activities and interesting booths on the night. Have a look in our gallery here.

The Red Carpet

The most anticipated Red Carpet affair in Africa has to be the #AMVCA red carpet!

We were not disappointed with the display of fine African inspired numbers, to sheer and sparkling outfits bedazzled in uncountable stones (serious coin was dropped). Did we mention the brothers in fine cut suits? ‘Best Dressed Male’ went to Nigerian influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa, and ‘Best Dressed Female’ went to Big Brother Naija 7 Housemate Beauty Tukura.

Our hosts

It was so much fun watching VJ Adams joining Sika Osei, Sir Uti and Toke Makinwa collaborating to deliver us the pre-show interviews. Looking like royalty, their confidence, poise and humorous banter made for a brilliant Red Carpet show! Where do we even begin where main hosts of the evening, the talented IK Osakioduwa and Miss Universe 2019, Zozi Tunzi are concerned? The chemistry was undeniable, but even more so when it was time for that musical performance. Brilliant!

The performances

Opening the show was an ensemble of African drummers and cultural dancers who set the tone with their suspenseful rhythms, building up the thrill. Nigerian Idols season 7 winner , Progress – and runner-up Zadok delivered a moving medley tribute in memory of all the stars we lost last year. Later, superstar Iyanya took to the stage with his band getting everyone on their feet! Nigeria’s Queen of Afrobeats, Tiwa Savage came on stage for an unforgettable medley with some of the hottest features. We could not stay in our seats!

The speeches

The uplifting speeches from the winners have given us a renewed sense of motivation to work towards our goals. Someone was chopping onions when Angel Unigwe collected her award. We joined the rising star in tears as she could not hold hers back. We clapped in excitement as a disbelieving Bimbo Ademoye collected her ‘Best Actress In a Comedy- (Movie/TV Series)’ award. Who can forget the Industry Merit Award winner affectionately known as Mama G, Patience Ozokwor, who is proof that hard work pays off!

There you have it; some of our favourite moments from the ninth edition of the AMVCAs. Make sure you tune in to the rebroadcasts this week!
