DStv’s Zambezi Magic has partnered with the Zambia Short Film Festival, on a mission to find young talented Zambians in the film industry to participate in a scriptwriting competition.

Staying true to the Channel’s the payoff line ‘Sharing Our Stories’, this competition is an opportunity for all young storytellers who wish to have a break in the industry and share their amazing stories

‘We are looking for all types of stories. As long as it’s a great award winning story, we would like it on Zambezi Magic , It can be about love, death, science fiction, drama, comedy - let your imagination run wild’ Said Head of Zambezi Magic, Addiel Dzinoreva.

The script submissions are now open and the closing date is the 31st October, 2016

5 of the best scripts will be chosen for final production by five young filmmaking crews that have never made any major film projects. The competition is open all young Zambians between the ages of 18-30 and the scripts should not be more than 30 pages.

‘Short films are a great way for aspiring filmmakers to learn and perfect their craft in a cost effective way. Because you have to tell your story in less than 30minutes you are forced to be creative and ensure every minute counts.’ Said Jessie Chisi Founder and Director of the Zambian Short Film Festival.

This initiative is part of Zambezi Magic’s commitment of promoting new talent and quality film production in the markets in which it operates through capacity building.

The competition will aim at empowering and motivating upcoming film makers which will include promoting the entire value chain in film making and also give young people a voice in the Zambian creative industry, but most importantly share the stories which will resonate with the channel’s subscribers in the Southern region of the continent.

The selected young, up and coming film makers will receive mentoring with knowledge transferred between the experienced and the upcoming film producers.
