New Times

3 January 2021, Lusaka, Zambia: OneZed viewers are kicking off the new year with a dose of exciting news – the much-loved series Mpali will be airing for one more weekday and will now play Mondays to Thursdays at 20:30, starting 3 January. It previously aired from Monday to Wednesday in the same time slot.

This is the first in a few changes to OneZed’s schedule, all designed with our loyal viewers’ enjoyment in mind.

Since its launch on OneZed (DStv Channel 172 and GOtv Channel 8) in 2020, viewers have been hooked on Mpali, the thrilling telenovela which delivers drama, deceit and love to its massive fanbase. Season 2 of the series follows the new era in the Nguzu family – after marrying his seventh wife, the white woman Nancy, Nguzu must not only deal with rebellion and deception from his other wives, there are also enemies outside the home he needs to look out for. Will his soft heart be his downfall?

Viewers will also be on the edge of their seats with a brand-new show, the drama Masauso, which will dominate the popular Sunday night primetime slot at 20:00 from 16 January. The action drama follows brilliant young detective Thandiwe, whose focus is women and children in danger. This is linked to her own, dark past – she was in an abusive marriage with a powerful man, and while she managed to escape, her two children were left with him. Will she be able to save her own children while also helping others who need her?

Another exciting announcement to OneZed viewers is that they will now have one more night every week to enjoy their favourite world class TV shows. The weekly drama slot will now air three days a week, giving viewers thrilling twists and turns every Monday to Wednesday.

About the new changes, OneZed channel head Mosibudi Pheeha says: “As the go-to channel for local entertainment, our passion isn’t just about keeping viewers entertained – it’s about giving them more of what they want, when they want it. Our dedication and commitment to our audience means that we work with the best creatives in producing content that speaks to our audience and tells our stories in ways that are authentic, entertaining and enriching. We’re excited to not only bring new shows to OneZed, but to upgrade the way our content slate is presented so that our viewers are always happy.”

The new season of Amooye – starting 24 January – will lead the weekly drama slot at 21:30, from Mondays to Wednesdays.

In season 2 of the millennial drama, Muta loses both her child and husband, and struggles to cope with the subsequent depression. Noni, who has started a new business, has a difficult time adjusting to her new, less-privileged life and must somehow find courage to rise from her troubles.

Spoiler and Security Guard will be moved from Thursdays 20:30 and 21:00, respectively, to a new timeslot as part of the stronger new Friday comedy lineup.

Spoiler will now air at 21:00 every Friday night, from 7 January. In season 2, the acrimony between Spoiler and Tabby reaches a boiling point, with Spoiler determined to destroy all his perceived enemies while disaster looms on the work front; Jimuke’s conning mission is under threat; and Mwisho gives in to illegal temptation.

Also from 7 January, Security Guard airs every Friday at 21:30. In season 3, Alibaba secretly returns to Doro’s house and tries to come up with a scheme to make money for his upkeep and a new platoon commander is appointed, resulting in panic, suspicion and even people visiting witchdoctors. Will the corrupt be able to keep themselves safe from the arm of the law, and will Alibaba’s determination to expose others put him at risk? Don’t miss this thrilling comedy in its new timeslot.

This doesn’t mean that the Thursday night slot will be barren – from 3 February at 21:30, OneZed viewers will enjoy the return of Shi Mumbi, which will air at 21:30. In season 2, Shi Mumbi has to find a way to get Belinda back after she decides to never fall in love again following the disastrous kitchen party; and Bana Mumbi has to manage both her mom and Mumbi, whilst dealing her cheating husband’s antics as he obsesses over bringing back his lost ‘side chick’ love. The comedy promises more scandal and drama on its return.

The Sunday night lineup is also being beefed up – in addition to Masauso, the reality show My Kitchen Party (MKP) is moving from Wednesdays at 21:30 to Sundays at 19:00. Season 4 of MKP promises to be most dramatic and suspenseful one yet, as we follow the journey into the preparations of one of the most important days for a bride-to-be. Each episode will also bring viewers laughter, teamwork, and kept and broken promises, as each different love story unfolds.

From thrilling dramas and sizzling telenovelas, to hilarious comedies and heartfelt reality, OneZed viewers have an exciting January and February in store. Be sure to join in on the action and fun!
