Uganda’s first all-female movie, Bed of Thorns continues with its winning streak. This time the popular film was honoured at the Celebrating Womanhood Awards after media personality Malaika Tenshi walked away with the Best Actress award. The ceremony was held in Kampala on 6 March. Malaika took to her social media pages to share the exciting news with her fans.

A lot people are proud of Malaika. They congratulated the star and called her achievement a “well-deserved win”. News anchor Flavia Tumusiime wrote: “Well done babe.” Musician Lilian Mbabzai told Malaika on Instagram: “Congratulations, you were born for this.”

Bed of Thorns certainly has the winning formula. The movie was awarded the Africa Focus Award at the London ArtHouse Film Festival in 2019. The narrative, which was produced by Eleanor Nabwiso, revolves around the lives of female friends who are going through elements of abuse in their lives. It puts the spotlight on gender-based violence whilst encouraging people to speak out about the heinous act.
