Just like many young people her age, Laura Kahunde had many dreams for her future. She always thought she’d be a supermodel, but things worked out differently for the Ugandan star. In the last couple of years, Laura has managed to make a name for herself as a renowned TV host and actress. Appearing in some of the country’s top TV shows isn’t something that the Our Perfect Wedding Uganda host takes for granted and she believes that all her achievements have impacted her life in wonderful ways.
When asked about her favourite part of her job, the presenter and actress told Pearl Magic in a recent interview: “I get to be a different person with every new role. It’s like stepping into different people’s lives for a while, experiencing what it’s like to live there and then getting back to who you really are. I also get to meet a lot of people."
When choosing her roles, Laura takes a few things into consideration. An important indicator for her is whether or not the role she’s portraying is something she’ll be proud of for years to come. She also asks herself other important questions: “Does the story speak to me emotionally and morally? Am I being given enough time to prepare myself to become the character? Are all, or most of the required resources to be able to bring this character to life available?”
Laura also shared that she’s had many highlights in the industry. To this day, one of the things she’s proud of is seeing the words “Introducing Laura Kahunde” on the screen. “Each and every role still gives me a lot of excitement and joy," she added.
Laura has a lot of faith in the local entertainment scene. Speaking about the current state of the Ugandan TV and entertainment industry, she said: “Ugandans are starting to appreciate stories told by Ugandans through film as much as they have always appreciated the music. We have fought really hard to convince the audience and I think the future looks bright."
For anyone with dreams of entering the world of entertainment, here is what Laura had to impart: “Show business is not only about posting party videos, photos of designer outfits and beautiful holiday destinations. There is real work behind the scenes."
