Housen Mushema has been in the entertainment industry for seven years. The actor, who also works as a model, has appeared in many productions including The Hostel, Balikoowa in the City and Pearl Magic’s False Dreams and Mistakes Gals Do.

We recently caught up with the star to chat about his journey in the industry, some of the lessons he’s learned over the years and what 2020 has been like for him.

The beginning

Housen’s love for the creative industry started at a very young age. “I always loved drawing and anything to do with Art. I was a great artist. And still I am.” he told Pearl Magic. He eventually found his way into modelling and acting. He revealed that his favourite thing about his job is the fact that it allows him to tap into different kinds of lives.

For Housen, acting is also about looking out for challenges. “The more challenging a role is, the sweeter it is bringing it to life. Working extra hard at it gives you an idea of how impactful it will be when it is presented to the viewers,” he explained. While he loves his career, the media personality also shared that there are a few disadvantages that come with being in show business. He mentioned that one of the downsides is not getting enough paying jobs.

Industry lessons

Despite some of the difficulties he’s faced in the last couple of years, Housen has also had many memorable moments. His role in -the movie titled Veronica’s Wish has been his biggest career highlight so far. “I do believe that there are bigger projects that are coming. I believe they will raise my bar,” he said. The actor would also like to work with more amazing actors across the African continent.

As someone who’s been in the public eye for years, Housen has learned some valuable lessons along the way. For him, giving up is not an option and patience is very important. “Treat each and every scene like it’s your first and last,” he added.

The Mistakes Gals Do star commended Pearl Magic for giving producers and filmmakers a chance to showcase their work to Ugandan audiences. For anyone who’d like to join the industry, Housen advised not to chase after money first, but to rather focus on your skills. “Once you have the skill, you start making the money.”

You can watch Housen on Mistakes Gals Do every Monday – Wednesday at 8:30pm on Pearl Magic, DStv channel 161 and GOtv channel 304.
