The Red Line is an eight-episode series that follows the lives of three very different families as they encounter and consider the racial biases that exist in Chicago and the effects it has on the tragedies they're faced with.
The North Side
On the north side of Chicago, we meet Daniel Calder, a high school history teacher who’s mourning the death of his African American partner, who was killed by a white cop. Daniel who lives with his daughter, Jira Calder-Brennan, tries his best to comfort her, but she feels as if her father isn’t giving her enough support. Jira decides to seek the assistance of someone who’ll relate better to the young, black woman that she is. In an attempt to find her roots, she also starts seeking for her biological mother. Daniel also begins searching for comfort in his colleague, Liam Bhatt, who also happens to be Jira’s teacher.
The South Side
On the south side of Chicago, we have Tia Young who lives with her husband and 6-year-old son. After following the news on Daniel’s husband’s shooting, Tia is torn between running for Alderman and putting everything on the line to reconnect with Jira, the daughter she gave up for adoption when she was a teenager.
The West Side
On the west side, there’s police officer Paul Evans who’s faced with the reality of his actions following the fatal shooting of an innocent man. His police partner, Victoria “Vic” Renna and his brother (who’s confined to a wheelchair after being shot on duty), prove to be more harm than good in their attempt to help him.
Follow the lives of these three families as they go through life’s lessons and explore each other’s backgrounds.
The Red Line airs Tuesdays on 1 Magic, DStv Channel 103.
