The Neighborhood returns tonight at 19:00 on 1 Magic for the third season. The Butlers and the Johnsons are back at trying to find a middle ground among their unending list of differences.

Cedric the Entertainer and Max Greenfield spoke to CBS Chicago about shooting the show during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Being back on set was absolutely awesome, said Cedric the Entertainer to CBS Chicago. The team had to abruptly leave the set before they could complete shooting season 3, and for seven months, were unable to continue with shooting. “It was awesome to be able to come back and then of course to have a show,” said Cedric.

For Greenfield, he was incredibly grateful to be able to get everyone back on set, especially with the uncertainty of everything. “You’re just like, I don’t know what’s going to happen. Every day was a new day and being able to come back to work, getting everybody on our show to be able to come back to work, our cast, our crew, all the people that work on the CBS lot, it’s a big deal,” he said.

The Neighborhood is a comedy show that tackles a lot of heavy topics but with humour, which can be conflicting. However, it’s thanks to the show’s writers that they get it right each time. “I think one of the key things is that we know that we’re a sitcom but because we are based in this fictional world it is important for us from the very beginning we approached this show with the subject matter of gentrification,” said Greenfield, adding that, “What is it like to have this young family live in this Black neighborhood and feel like, hey I belong here? And you’re like, do you? We feel like those things carry over to so many other issues that we have to talk about and just about life in general. Parenting, loving, marriage.”
