You may be disappointed by the cancellation of Star on Fox, but worry not, because one of its leading ladies, Ryan Destiny, has bagged a new role on Freeform’s Grown-ish.
According to Shadow and Act, Destiny is set to play Jillian, a student who transferred from HBCU and is about to become very cosy with Zoey’s ex Luca.
Jillian has been described as a well-rounded character who “talks art and music with Luca, politics and activism with Aaron. She also fits right in with Zoey and her eclectic crew of girls”, writes Shadow and Act.
Cal U is more in line with Jillian’s goal of becoming a filmmaker, Destiny told Entertainment Weekly. Cal U is a different kind of challenge for Jillian as she gets the chance to interact with different characters and has the opportunity to see where she fits into all of it.
Giving me details about her role, Destiny said that landing her character on the popular series was a bit of a long but short story. “I auditioned for a whole different show that Kenya Barris is doing, and I didn’t really fit the character, but they loved my audition so much that they wanted me somewhere in their world.
“So, it was basically like, ‘I want you on grown-ish as another character’”.
Destiny couldn’t refuse the offer as she said she was actually a fan of the show.
Catch Destiny as Jillian on Grown-ish every Monday at 20:30.
