By this time, Abishola (and Bob to be fair), should be at the tip of your tongue. Since its premiere, the CBS romantic comedy has had us in stitches with each and every episode. And part of this reason is that Folake Olowofoyeku is such a natural in front of the camera.

Although many will recognise Olowofoyeku from Law & Order: SVU and Westworld to name a few, her role on Bob Hearts Abishola is definitely her biggest role yet and will have many talking about her a lot more.

So, it’s only fitting that if you don’t know much about Olowofeyeku, we bring you up to speed.

Olowofoyeke was meant to study economics

Olowofoyeke’s parents were never going to allow her to pursue her passion for acting if she didn’t study economics. To satisfy her parents, she enrolled in The City College of New York with the intention of studying economics and law. “I started economics for like half a semester and then slowly segued into theater,” she told Cheat Sheet.

Although she decided against a career in finance, Olowofoyeku is still interested in the field. “Taxes still elude me,” she said. From time to time, she’ll sit down with her accountant and get him to explain the books to her because of her interest.

She’s multi-talented

Just like the acting, pursuing a career in music didn’t go down well with Olowofoyeku’s parents, she told Cheat Sheet. “Actually, I didn’t come [to America} to act,” she explained. My parents were definitely against music and then I managed to enter into theater, and I loved it. “I felt like it came naturally.”

However, now that her career in acting is established, Olowofoyeku is spending her time developing her music. “I’m working with a producer in Nigeria now and we’re working on some new tracks,” she explained. “It’s Afrobeat, Afro-rock. I play the electric guitar so I infuse that with African pop rhythms and African drums,” Olowofoyeku concluded.

Catch Olowofoyeku as Abishola on Bob Hearts Abishola, Thursdays at 19:00 on 1 Magic, DStv Channel 103.
