Marsai Martins may be new to the big screen, but she’d certainly no stranger to the series, Black-ish, in which fans have come to fondly know her as Diane Johnson. However, the “almost fifteen-year-old”, recently added a new title to her growing resume; that of executive producer.
Although Marsai has been in the entertainment industry for almost 10 years now, any wonder where her career in entertainment began.
Speaking to National Public Radio (NPR), Marsai’s father said that the Martin family was minding their own business at a mall when a lady gave them a coupon for glamour shots. The family signed a 5-year-old Marsai up to get her portraits taken.
Following a few failed attempts, Marsai finally landed an interview with an agency that was all too keen to sign her.
And as the saying goes, the rest is history.
Audiences across the globe have come to know Marsai as one of the fraternal twins on Black-ish. Diane is wiser than most people her own age and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
Barris, executive producer of Black-ish, was the one who played an instrumental part in Marsai’s latest project, Little in which she stars as Jordan.
Catch Marsai Martin on Black-ish every Thursday at 19:00, on 1 Magic DStv Channel 103.
