A Black Lady Sketch Show invites audiences into a new territory not explored by many shows. The comedy series which is created by American comedic actress Robin Thede and co-executive produced by Insecure producer Issa Rae boasts a cast, writers’ room and director made up of entirely black women.
If you’ve watched the first episode, you may have already recognized a few famous faces. The guest list does comprise of a number of well-known actresses, including Patti LaBelle, Angela Bassett, Laverne Cox, David Alan Grier and many more. However, you may be less familiar with the comedy series’ regular appearances, who according to NY Times, “deliver spy spoofs, beauty mishaps, dating disasters and scenes from an all-black lady courtroom in the first season”.

Robin Thede
You may recognize Robin Thede from The Rundown With Robin Thede, a late-night news show she once hosted. She’s an actress, writer, sketch and improvisational comedian. One of her most prized accolades is being the first African-American woman to be the head writer for a late-night talk show.
Quinta Brunson
Quinta Brunson is popular for the 2014 viral Instagram series entitled The Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date. The dry-witted stand-up comedian has attracted many viewers for her matter-of-fact skits and GIFs. Brunson formerly worked for BuzzFeed as a development partner.
Ashley Nicole Black
Ashley Nicole Black is an American comedian, actress, and writer who was part of the Emmy-winning writing team for Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. She first entered the late-night scene with a Second City background. She previously taught comedy writing at Chicago’s comedy institution.
Gabrielle Dennis
Gabrielle Dennis spent two years hosting BET’s youth-targeted talk show Teen Summit. Since then, she’s appeared on numerous TV shows, including Insecure, The Game, and Rosewood. In 2018, Dennis starred as Whitney Houston in the biopic The Bobby Brown Story.
