Tyra Banks on how her mom taught her to love her booty

The supermodel's mother played a big role in how she came to accept her body just the way it is...

Tyra Banks has never been shy about flaunting her near perfect body.

But while that comes with the territory for the 44-year-old supermodel - who's built a big name for herself in fashion striking fierce poses, sometimes in barely-there daring numbers - she says she got it all from her momma. And it we aren't even talking looks!

Tyra reveals in an interview that her mother played a crucial role in moulding her career, and some of that advice included nuggets of encouragement for the then young model to absolutely embrace her booty.

As part of her promotional media tour for her impending memoirs, aptly entitled Perfect Is Boring: 10 Things My Crazy, Fierce Mama Taught Me About Beauty and Being A Boss, America's Next Top Model host told W Magazine that her mother's unconventional approach to parenting is part of the secret that led her to walk the biggest fashion runways, being the face of global fashion houses and later launching her own growing fashion empire.

"My mom always taught me to love my booty", revealed Ms Banks in the interview, adding that "even when it was very difficult to when it was very, very skinny and there was nothing I could do to gain weight."

The book is said to be an honest document of how Tyra's relationship with her mother, as well as her upbringing, have come to shape her ascent all those many years ago when she began navigating the fashion industry as one of a few women of colour who were granted access in the business.

The former Victoria's Secret 'angel', who recently said she has no intentions of allowing her son to pursue a modelling career, has now shifted her focus to mentoring aspirant models who want to crack the industry on America's Next Top Model, Tuesdays at 19:00 on 1Magic (DStv channel 103).
