The Plot

Based on the fantasy books written by JRR Tolkien, the Hobbit is directed by Peter Jackson, who also made the Lord of the Rings films. The trilogy is the story of “how a Baggins had an adventure, and found himself doing and saying things altogether unexpected…”

The great adventure takes Bilbo Baggins on a journey across Middle-Earth, encountering wizards, dwarves, elves, orcs and dragons along the way.

Awards and nominations

The films were nominated for seven Oscars, and Martin Freeman won Best Hero at the MTV awards. Evangeline Lilly and Orlando Bloom won Best Fight for Tauriel and Legolas against the Orcs.

Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett shines as elf Galadriel while Oscar nominees Ian McKellen, Ian Holm and Benedict Cumberbatch star as the wizard Gandalf, the older Bilbo and the voice of the dragon Smaug respectively. Golden Globe nominee Andy Serkis is horrifyingly brilliant as Gollum.
