In terms of mass popularity and music sales, Shekhinah is probably the most successful Idols alum – and she only finished sixth! (This after she cracked the Top 32 in season 7). By 2015, she was going ‘Back to the Beach’ with another Idols finalist, Kyle Deutsch – this won them an MTV Africa Music Award for Best Pop & Alternative. Then she was going to ‘Let You Know’ with Sketchy Bongo. Shekhinah was a radio favourite before releasing her debut album, ‘Rose Gold’, in 2018, a record that’s subsequently been certified platinum. Then she cleaned up at the SAMAs, winning Newcomer of the Year, Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year. She toured the album in 2019 at a series of Rose Fest gigs, where hordes of young female fans (and some guys!) sang loudly into the night air. A true Idols star who never even featured in a finale.
