Randall, Somizi and Unathi couldn't be more different from one another and honestly, that's a great thing. While they ultimately have to come to an agreement we'd wager that our Top 16 wouldn't be as gifted, diverse and competitive as it is now were it not for the varied perspectives our Judges bring to the table.
Furthermore, these different approaches make for some truly insightful feedback, show after show. That said, everyone's a critic (particularly in the digital age) and it's hard to not have an opinion when the stakes are so high. As such, we've decided to put you all in the hot seat and see which Judge you'd most likely side with.Â
You're giving feedback to someone who's not doing as well as they could! What is your approach?
A) To be constructive and affirming
B) To admonish but still encourage
C) To be direct and also caution
Â
A contestant has a beautiful voice but they are VERY poorly rehearsed. What are you doing?
A)Â Â Â Â Â Calling them out and asking them to sing something else
B) Â Â Â Taking advantage of the opportunity to drag them for Africa
C)Â Â Â Â Â Telling them to get out
Â
What are the most important attributes an Idol should possess
A)Â Â Â Â Â Vocals, Soulfulness and Authenticity
B)Â Â Â Â Â Vocals, Image and Passion
C)Â Â Â Â Â Vocals, Work Ethic and Soulfulness
Â
As a Judge on our panel, what would your biggest turn-off be?
A)Â Â Â Â Â Arrogance
B) Â Â Â Dull and uninspiring performers
C) Â Â Â Bad singing habits
Â
Someone delivers a show-stopping performance on stage. How are you going to react?
A)     I’d probably be overcome with emotion and cry
B)     I’m jumping out of my seat and cheering them on
C)     I’d celebrate but also give them constructive criticism so they remain consistent
Â
Someone gives an awful Audition that’s worthy only of a Wooden Mic. What are you doing?
A)Â Â Â Â Â Laughing until I cry
B)    Might as well join in on the fun
C)Â Â Â Â Â Taking advantage of the situation to take a jab at them
Â
Did you get mostly "C's"? You'd probably side with Randall often.
Much like Randall you're probably frank, honest and at times harsh but it's well intentioned and not meant to be taken to heart. After all, a lot of Idols have mentioned in the past how paying close attention to criticism has helped them go far. His experience as a record label exec also means he sets his bar quite high and considers not only raw talent but versatility and marketability. You're probably in the same lane.
Â
Were you thinking "A" most of the time? Unathi's your spirit animal.
You're probably stern when you need to be but also patient like Unathi so you'd probably let people down easy. You might also love confident people with vivacious personalities but there's a catch. They'd need to deliver a soul-stirring performance. If they aren't connecting with the music or being authenthic, it's a NO!
Â
If you answered B a lot, you and Somizi? Same WhatsApp group!
Som-som lives for a thrilling and passionate performance and you probably do to. No theatrics however as he’ll see right through you and call you out. Like Somizi you'd probably love interacting with the contestants and delivering epic and "meme-orable" responses to the best performances. That said, if a contestant is playing games you'll readily tell them, "Good luck and goodbye!"
