Thapelo, like many of our finalists, decided to give Idols another shot despite being dealt a blow after losing her voice and falling out during Theatre Week last season. Things didn't get much easier this time around. After giving her all with a brilliant cover of Zonke's, 'Reach It' every Judge except Unathi voted "no" siting concerns about her voice and technique. Teary-eyed and reeling, Thapelo seemed ready to say her thank yous and head home but Unathi pullled out her golden disk and saved the day.
Unsta's call would prove to be a brilliant move because Thapelo went on to defy expectations and shine during her Group and Solo performances at Theatre Week. The rave reviews started pouring in too with thousands of fans fawning over her "husky" tone and powerful vocals. Nowhere was this more evident that in what will probably go down as her most epic performance, Tamar Braxton's 'Love and War'. She laid any doubts about her vocal prowess to rest and guaranteed her spot in the Top 10.
In her live chat this Monday, Thapelo made it very clear that she's ready to put in work and take the industry by storm. Indeed on Sunday night, many were already pointing out that she has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of former contestants like Shekinah and Amanda Black who didn't make it all the way to the end. With charisma, beauty and a very rare tone on her side we have no doubt that she's going to leave her mark. Farewell and swot hard Thapelo! We wish you nothing but the best on what's sure to be a bright and beautiful future after Idols.
