Meet Willemina

Willemina and Mathando's love story started as a dream, it was love at first sight when the two first connected. They went on to have a beautiful girl and soon decided to relocate back to Johannesburg from Port Alfred, so Mathando could find better opportunities to provide for his family. In the clip below, Willemina recalls how sweet and humble her boyfriend was until they moved back to Johannesburg.

A victim of emotional abuse

Things changed for the couple as soon as Mathando reconnected with his family. Mathando would start controlling Willemmina's life, isolating her from her loved ones but treating her as an outsider in their home. His sister encouraged Mathando's affairs with foreign nationals as a way of getting extra money. He would record himself with his girlfriends and forward them to the mother-in-law as a way of degrading Willemina. She expresses how her relationship has started to affect her self-esteem often having feelings of suicide. This left our presenter, Lerato Mvelase, and the rest of Mzansi, in tears.

Mathando caught by surprise

Mathando couldn't stand the heat in the kitchen as soon as he realised that was the end of his relationship, he got up and insisted on leaving the set and asked producers to drive him back home. While this was happening, Willemina revealed that she just wanted her ID documents and grant money so she could move on with her life. It was soon revealed that she had to endure multiple abortions because of his career and even took care of him financially in the beginning stages of the relationship.

Moving on to better things

While there was no accountability from Mathando' side, he did promise that Wilemina would be granted access to see his daughter in the holidays. Willemina might not have gotten the closure or apology she deserved, but she managed to leave the relationship that was creating turmoil in her life. Viewers felt her pain and strongly believed she would be much better without Mathando.
