It’s been nine weeks of grueling musical challenges for the contestants and the one thing they all have in common is winning the VodacomNXTLVL title.

It’s a race between Jesse, Zethe, Theo, Thami and Music 97, all young and gifted upcoming musicians.

They all draw inspiration from either close family or friends and here’s what taking it to the next level means to each one of them:

Jesse:

The 23-year-old from Johannesburg was largely inspired by a deceased friend to pursue music, and winning the competition would be a manifestation of all the hard work he’s put into his music. Taking it to the next level means taking it to new heights each week.

Thami:

A good friend of his got him into music and his favourite music genre is Afro-soul. For the 21-year-old from Durban, taking it to the next level means developing himself into an established artist and focusing more on his music because he believes music was there before he was born and will live on, way after he passes on.

Theo:

He draws a lot of inspiration from international singer, Chris Brown. Taking it to the next level means changing the game for this 23-year-old from Pretoria.

Zethe:

The 24-year-old from Durban says her mom got her into music and believes the competition came at the right time. To her, taking it to the next level means getting out of one’s comfort zone and doing the extra ordinary.

Music 97

For the band from Secunda, winning the competition would basically mean they’ve been taken to the next level, as they’ve been trying so hard to get recognition. “This is our time!” they say.
