The famed, future-facing amapiano producer and rapper Focalistic join us on Idols SA this Sunday!
Vigro Deep – Idols SA

While we all know amapiano is THE big sound right now, Vigro Deep has been doing it, and lately he’s been taking the genre in new and fascinating directions, incorporating elements of jazz, soul, and even maskandi.

On Sunday, he’ll perform the popular ‘Blue Monday’, made in tandem with Focalistic, who’s worth an entire story on his own! Also known as Pitori Maradona, the rapper has been everywhere over the last year, collabing with Cassper Nyovest (‘Never Know’), Emtee (‘Klippa’) Major League DJz and Vigro Deep on the phenomenally successful ‘Ke Star’.

But back to Vigro. His ‘Baby Boy’ trilogy was a game-changer, with ‘Baby Boy III’ scoring a SAMA nomination for Best Kwaito/Gqom/Amapiano. He also won for Best Produced Album for his contribution to DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small’s ‘Scorpion Kings’ project.

On his new album ‘The Rise of a Baby Boy’, he throws all the rules out, fusing amapiano with jazz and R&B. And he uses a slew of vocalists and features, including Sax, Khumz, ex-Idol Rethabile, Thomas, DJ Bucks, MhawKeys and Bucie.

The record has spawned the single ‘Nguwe’, seen here Massive Music:

He’s the son of Victor Ngcongwana aka DJ Spring, a legendary house DJ who is one of the founding members of The Godfathers of Deep House, and he’s been mentored by Oskido and DJ Bucks, signing with the former’s Kalawa Jazmee label.

Here’s the choice tune he’ll be performing alongside Focalistic on Idols SA this Sunday!
