Last night was a jam-packed celebration of the history of music in South Africa and our Idols SA Top 9 brought the magic to these hits with their unique twist

In case you missed the buzz last night, here’s a look at how they whipped up some magic to celebrate securing their spot in the Top 9. We are officially impressed just as you are with their interpretation of these gems! 👏

With Noxolo being the first to make it through to the Top 9, she opened the live show with her unique arrangement to Joe Mafela’s hit song ‘Shebeleza’.

Kabelo found his rhythm and flow with Ringo’s hit song ‘Ekuseni’. Thanks to his endearing delivery of this performance, he seems to be on the right track.

Although the judges did not have great feedback on his performance, some Twitter users understand the judges’ opinions hold no sway on their votes and showed their support.

Unleashing her vocal prowess, Mpilwenhle rocked the stage with an iconic hit that had us mesmerized. Here’s how people celebrated her tribute to Caiphus Semenya’s historical hit ‘Nomalanga’.

Surprise! CeeJay turned up the heat with a banging performance that reverberated through the walls of the Heartfelt Arena and – of course – we felt it through our screens! Given his performance last night, we might need someone to check on Sis Thembi just to make sure that she’s doing okay.👀

Tesmin-Robyn brought some fire to her tribute and blazed her way through this performance and her beautiful tone has made an impression on Somizi.

The night was just getting started! As soon as Ty Loner earned a spot in the Top 9, he celebrated his victory with a beautiful rendition of Johnny Clegg and Juluka’s hit song ‘Scatterlings of Africa’.

While many were ravished in the artistry brought by the few that had made the Top 9, some had their eyes out for their faves only. Nozi was the seventh contestant to make the cut, and of course, she did not disappoint with her performance.

Thapelo made it just in time to give his impressive performance of the song made famous by Sankomota – 'Papa'. His emotional delivery might be closely linked to being the eighth contestant to make the cut, but we cannot deny his talent. This man can hold a note!

It’s no surprise that it gets tense when there are two contestants remaining and one spot left for the top spot. Thanks to her votes, Zee made it through to drop another banging performance.

With numbers dwindling down and every week, the pressure is on for the Idols contestants to gear up for the finale. We’re in for a great time as we witness each of them become the superstars they dream to be. In the meantime, don’t forget to make your vote count. Vote HERE.

Catch the Idols SA contestants live on Mzansi Magic at 17:00 on Sundays. Follow the action on FacebookTwitter,  Instagram and TikTok using #IdolsSA.
