What we love about SAFTA winning Isibaya actor and actress, Abdul Khoza and Gcina Mkhize!
isibaya

Isibaya stars Abdul Khoza, who plays the infamous Qaphela Ngwenya and Gcina Mkhiza, our loved KaMajola scooped awards at this year’s SAFTAs. Their work need little introduction to Isibaya viewers who already love them, but here is a look at some of the best work from the winning pair.

Abdul Khoza – Qaphela

  1. When Qaphela felt his father loved him less

Abdul Khoza does not only express Qaphela’s fighting abilities, but also his vulnerable side. Isibaya fans know that Qaphela’s greatest love and obsession is his father. So he was deeply hurt when he felt his father loved him less, a moment Abdul Khoza captured so well.

  1. When he and Zama tried to start their own empire

Qaphela is usually the kind of man who is large and in charge. He never seems to find himself in situations where he is like a fish out of water. However, when he decided to start his own empire and venture into the dark underworld, Abdul Khoza captured the fear and put-on courage Qaphela had.

Gcina Mkhize – KaMajola

  1. When Jola gave Ntwenhle dating advice

Whether you agree with Jola’s advice or not, her advice to Nwenhle on ensnaring the king was hilarious. Gcina captures Jola’s beliefs with such humour and grace. It truly felt like a teaching moment between a mother and daughter. Eventually, Ntwenhle did make the chief fall in love with her, although she probably wishes she didn’t.

  1. When Jola found Samson in his hotel with a masseuse

We were all wondering how much longer Samson could hide his cancer from his wife. He should have just opened up to her because she found out when she found him in his hotel room with his masseuse exchanging money. Not a good look, but great humour and acting from Gcina again!
