Every new week sees the number of hopefuls drop and we’re now down to the seven who are fighting to make it until the last stretch. Thabo, Niikiey, Thando, Princess, Faith, Envic, and Nkosi carried an extravaganza of a show that the very last Idols SA showstopper deserved.
Lights, flames, and the dancers were ready to play their supporting roles, the judges were a visual representation of what a showstopper looks like and the contestants were hyped enough to make sure that they leave a lasting impression on Mzansi.
The night, unfortunately, started with a goodbye. In this case, Sena was the unlucky one but in a twist that no one saw coming, we got a chance to still see her perform and show us what she prepared.
The audience were sad for her but also loved her performance.
The contestants had taken pages out of the past performers books and poured magic into their showstopper.
Nkosi got the ball rolling when he took his smoothness to the next level with Usher’s ‘Good Kisser’. He danced and charmed and even though Somizi wanted it to end, all the judges ended it with some encouraging words to simply push himself more.
Coming through as a woman scorned then changed her life was Niikiey with Bongo Maffin’s ‘The Way Kungakhona’, leaving the crowd on their feet and judges so impressed that they finally entered their showstopper mood.
Faith then brought all the funk and made sure that he left it all on stage. While the energy was still up, Thabo came with another Usher anthem, ‘Caught Up’, the judges may have been a bit tough on him but they still gave him props for putting his all into it.
Princess made it a point to listen to the judges and now that she got a song that allowed, she filled the whole stage with her dance moves and consistent vocals on Lady Zamar’s ‘Criminal’ which made them appreciate her efforts.
The sass didn’t end there because Envic was next with a Beyoncé hit. He left the judges and audience in absolute shock by taking on ‘Crazy in Love’.
To close off the show, Thabo brought the Teatro to a frenzy as soon as he sang the first notes of Michael Jackson’s ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’. He not only resembled the King of Pop with his attire, but the energy and vocals were too good to miss. He got the judges agreeing that it’s his time and it’s undeniable.
It’s safe to say that the final Idols SA showstopper left no crumbs.
