Jama’s evil knows no bounds. For power and money, he would kill his own father, rob the people he is supposed to take care of, kill his brother and threaten to take his mother’s life.
No one is sure how it all went wrong with Jama. MaMkhize says her son wasn’t always like this as a little boy. However, being brought into ibutho and trained as an assassin by his father changed Jama for the worst. He became power-hungry and blood-thirsty.
Now no one knows what to do about Mancinza’s son who is ruling ibutho with an iron fist and an evil heart. The brotherhood may not be perfect, but everything it stands for, Jama is against: Loyalty, discretion, brotherhood, community, legacy, family.
No one knows where Jama wants to take ibutho. he has already killed one of the founding members of the brotherhood in cold blood in front of the entire ibutho. Now he has pinned Mancinza’s death on his brother and killed him himself.
He terrorizes the community instead of protecting it, hangs out with questionable friends who never question him, and leaks information when it suits him.
If blessings follow those who honour their mother and father, then Jama has a dose of bad luck headed his way for his evil doings.
Possibly the biggest flaw about Jama, is that he cannot listen to reason from anyone else. He won’t listen to Vovo or to the members of brotherhood. He does not show elders respect nor consider the consequences of his actions. He threatened to kill his own mother if she did not pin Mancinza’s death on Mndeni.
