Captain Action
Β
#SpiritOfMzansi kicked off with host Mpho Popps breaking down Race Day 1βs very first challenge; all eight contenders for the crown would have to dash through a colossal parking lot, find one of two Volkswagen Amarok Extremes and locate the duffel bags and keys hidden inside. Sure enough, as soon as Mpho gave the directive, the gang sprang into action and covered the lengths and breaths of the lot, in search of the vehicles. Mother Luck was on TshidiΒ and Sandileβs side however, because the two managed to get to the loot before anyone else could. Tshidi and Sandile were christened captains of Team Spirit and Team Mzansi respectively, courtesy of their feat and each was afforded the privilege of selecting the teams they will be traveling across the country with.
Parallel (uni)reverse
Β
Next up was the parallel parking challenge that had the two teams going head-to head, behind the cones. Naturally, everyone watching felt sorry for our eight thrill seekers β and why not, because who in the history of the world, has ever been into parallel parking? The challenge turned out to not be as bad as everyone had anticipated, with Eldorado Parkβs Jason even managing to get in and out of the Amarok he was driving, in 16 seconds.
Looking perky
Β
Team Mzansi got first-pick on the Perks Board, courtesy of their Parallel Parking victory over Team Spirit. What did they choose to help make their journey smoother? A cooler box and phone to complement their two-minute head start. Team Spirit, on the other hand, picked Satellite Navigation, as well as a five-minute head start, which effectively put them in the lead. And with that, the teams were off to Standerton, but not before heading to Boksburg for pick-ups and drop-offs.
Finish line
Despite struggling with their Sat Nav, Team Spirit defeated all odds and reached the finish line before Team Mzansi.
