Set in bustling Mamelodi, Soweto, Johannesburg, Kokota is an Amapiano drama about dreams that demand to be followed, no matter the cost.
We are about to witness a young man named Tshepang played by Thato Dithebe as he tries by all means to go after his dream of being an Amapiano artist. He is about to go through some challenges, with the biggest one being his father/pastor.
It’s a beautiful story of not letting anything stand in your way when pursuing your dreams but there’s so much more.
JR and his fabulous time are behind the music
Being the man behind many South African hits, it’s no surprise that the show got the best man behind the music along with his team. We had a chat with JR about all things Kokota, his highlights and the process of knowing the exact kind of music to create on the show and for which moments.
The journey to the top
It’s the perfect depiction of how successful Amapiano artists fight to get to the top. The show displays all the ups and downs of hustling for gigs, getting producers to believe in you, family to be on your side and so many more.
It is a relatable story
Fuelled by hope and passion, this is a story of a young man simply trying to get it even when the odds are against him. It’s al about showing that with dedication and perseverance, all things are possible and everyone with a passion will be able to relate without a doubt.
The most important lesson and confirmation that the story comes with for the audience is to prove that it won’t be bad and discouraging forever, at some point with hard work and hope, it will all figure itself out and work for the best at the end of it all.
Don’t miss Kokota season 1, premiering on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) on Sunday 10 September at 20:00. Episodes will also be available to enjoy on DStv Stream.
