This is what it all boils down to! After nine weeks of nothing but blood, sweat and busted vocal chords, our Top 16 will finally get to know whether they are cruising into the Idols season 11 Top 10, during tonight’s live results show.

The journey certainly hasn’t been an easy one for our Idols. After facing brutal (yet necessary) scrutiny from our judges, Somizi, Gareth, Randall and Unathi during four extremely stressful stops in Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg, our Top 16 scored seats in the buses headed for Theatre Week in Sun City. As expected, Hell Week lived up to its name and then some. Despite all kinds of obstacles being thrown their way however, our eight boys and eight girls held on to that dream and delivered the goods, like the true shining stars they are.

After singing their hearts out during very messy group performances, where many forgot their lyrics (and their dignity), these powerhouses survived. South Africa then watched with bated breath, as each of them walked into the theatre where our judges were waiting to deliver the news. Tears were shed and earnest supplications were offered, as each of them filled the last 16 spots - and it finally hit home that each was a step away from the Top 10 and ultimately, pole position.

As soon as the announcement was made, the Top 16 was then whisked off to the Idols house, where final preparations were made for the eagerly anticipated Top 16 solo performance round. After grueling sessions with music director RJ Benjamin and the team, our chosen ones were ready to sing for South Africa’s vote. The boys were first to go and put on a show so memorable, vote records for this stage of the competition were broken. Last Sunday, the girls impressed too and it soon became quite clear that this season, the level of talent on display is unlike any we have ever seen.

Tonight, our 16 hopefuls, alongside the rest of Mzansi, will find out if they have made the cut and are moving forward to the next stage of the competition. Whatever happens, our Top 16 should be super proud of how far they have come. Cheers to them!

Don’t miss the live results show tonight at 17:00 on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) and M-Net (DStv channel 101) to see if your favourite make the cut.
