On Sunday, the Idols will be backed by the Mzansi Gay Choir, and we have a special performance from Soa Mattrix and Soulful G!
The Mzansi Gay Choir on Idols SA

The Mzansi Gay Choir is South Africa's very first full gay choral ensemble, featuring 24 talented male vocalists.

Established by activist Thami Dish Kotlolo and singer Kelly Khumalo, it was initially meant to only exist for a on-off event, but because of their undeniable craft and important LGBTQi message, Kotlolo decided to maintain it.

The ensemble has graced top stages in the five years of its existence, including backing Kelly Khumalo’s One Night concert, and they’ve sung with notable acts such as KB Motsilanyane, Brenda Mtambo and Wanda Baloyi. Last year they featured on the Feather Awards.

And they also featured on Idols SA last season!

They'll accompany our singers on their 'sobizi extra' song.

We’ll also be joined by special guests Soa Mattrix and Soulful G, who’ll be performing what is shaping up to be one of the tracks of the year, ‘uThando’!

An iTunes number 1 for more than three weeks (ahead of Mapara A Jazz’s ‘John Vuli Gate’, which was also recently performed on Idols), it’s currently number 2, ahead of Jub Jub’s ‘Ndikhokhele’.

The young amapiano producer and vocalist have another track dropping this Friday (20 November) – check it on your favourite music service here.

Season 16 of Idols SA broadcasts on Sundays at 17:00 on Mzansi Magic Channel 161. Get exclusive updates and a behind the scenes look at all the action right here on our site. Don't forget to join the conversation by following us on FacebookTwitter and Instagram using the hashtag #IdolsSA.
