Sthembiso (36) had no idea he’d meet the love of his life, Pearl (25) at the traditional ceremony for young girls in 2018.

How they met:

It so happened that a friend of Pearl’s knew Sthembiso, so he asked the friend for Pearls’ number. A few months later, he called and asked to see her but Pearl wasn’t too keen. They met after a while and he told her how he felt about her and Pearl asked that he gives her time to think about it.

Sthembiso said at some point while still trying to convince her, she blocked him! “Maybe I came across as a guy who just wanted to have fun,” he elaborated.

Sthembiso asked to take her out on her birthday in April that year. “We went to the mall and this marked the first of many dates, as we started dating that day,” said Pearl.

They both love the level of respect they each have for each other. Sthembiso adds that he also loves the fact that Pearl adores his 12-year-old son.

Challenges:

Pearl had to undergo initiation. “It was difficult for Sthembiso because he couldn’t call or see me as he used to because we weren’t allowed to use cellphones.” he could only visit every three or six months.

Sthembiso recalled how she recommended that he finds someone else. “But I wasn’t interested in other people, I was interested in her,” he said.
