Pabi Cooper's performance on Sunday – Idols SA

Last Sunday, Pabi Cooper joined the Idols SA finalists for the Top 8 reveal.

Pabi Cooper is no stranger to guest acts on big TV shows – she appeared on Big Brother Mzansi, the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards, and made an appearance on Idols SA this Sunday. This is perhaps a little unpredictable – the show’s theme is “Parents’ High School Musical Crush”, and while Cooper is no doubt eminently crushable, she’s perhaps a bit young to have been crushed upon by your parents during their high school days.

The amapiano artist took the stage alongside a host of dancers, so it delivered on the promise to be a big performance marking the announcement of the Top 8 Idols SA finalists – a taste of what’s to come one this Sunday – the Showstoppper episode. Cooper has been busy for someone so young – having only turned 21 this year, she’s already earned the “Best Newcomer” category at the Amapiano Awards and has regularly made it onto nominations lists for assorted other awards shows.

Just a few weeks ago, a publication listed Cooper among “Five female musicians making their mark”, citing her “savvy approach to social media” and ability to employ visual aesthetics. Her single ‘Banyana Ke Bafana’ was something of an unofficial anthem for the national women’s football team.

All of this, we’d like to remind you, one year after releasing her debut single, ‘Isiphithiphiti’. Clearly, the road has just started for this promising, young star, who is an example of what might lie in wait for the competition’s finalists.
