Dr Tumi

Dr Tumi aka Tumisang Makweya is a real doctor, but it’s his divine gospel music that’s currently doing the healing. A multi-platinum seller and multi-Crown Gospel Music Awards winner, he scored two SAMA nods in 2017, including for the massive live album, ‘Love and Grace’. He’s filled up The Dome and the Voortrekker monument, and in 2019 hosted 50,000 people at his annual Gathering of Worshippers. His latest album, ‘Love on the Cross’, arrived to much fanfare last year. Oh, and he also sang at the #KFCWedding!

King Monada

One of Limpopo’s finest, Khutso Steven Kgatle aka King Monada has been killing it since 2018’s ‘Malwedhe’ – with its attendant ‘Idibala challenge’, which went global – and early in 2019, ‘Chuwana’ really went off (as did a later feature on Tshego’s ‘No Ties’). He’s even received props from Penny Penny for his unique singing in the Khelobedu language and he’s widely renowned as the actual King of Bolobedu music.

Prince Kaybee

Prince Kaybee won Song of the Year at the 2018 DStvMVCA for “Club Controller”, but since that win he’s released a whole bunch of singles that have multiple million plays on YouTube, including “Banomoya” (with Busiswa & TNS), “Fetch Your Life” (with Msaki) and the massive “Gugulethu” with Indlovukazi, Supta and Afro Brothers, which also got a Viewers’ Choice Award nomination for Song of the Year!

Sho Madjozi

Sho – 2019 was a MASSIVE year for our other Limpopo nominee, who also appears among the nominees for Favourite Personality of the Year. Sho Madjozi bagged awards, including a BET and two SAMAs, and she landed on the VogueWorld 100 and Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 lists. She appeared on the Ellen and Kelly Clarkson shows after ‘John Cena’ went global – the video for her performing it for A Colors Show has almost 10 million views!

Sjava

2019 was also a breakout year for Jabulani Hadebe aka Sjava. His ‘Umqhele’ album scored him SAMA wins for Album of the Year (ahead of Black Coffee) and Best Afro-Pop Album. This followed his win at the 2017 DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards for Favourite Rising Star. He featured on the ‘Black Panther’ soundtrack, which was nominated for a Grammy. His ‘A Night with Sjava’ gig was huge. As was the lead single from his 2019 album, ‘Umama’, which is also nominated in the Song of the Year category.
