Whether old or new, marriage is never without it’s fair – and unfair – share of drama. Drama that often comes in the shape of family, friends, exes, third parties and other people. Infatuated, many jump heart first into marriage. Many more of us are led by romantic notions of love and are bewildered when the reality is different.

While Phumelele may have chosen to enter into a polygamous marriage, the prospect of a new wife is nothing but a threat. A third wife to Mpiyakhe Zungu, she may have convinced herself that she was his last wife. Sadly, Sengwayo’s wandering eye has not been tamed. And neither has his appeal to the opposite sex, wife or not.

Surely Mpiykahe deserves the benefit if the doubt for not sneaking around behind his wives backs? But there was that one time…

Polygamy is still underpinned by the rules of marriage. A man must be faithful to his wives. The institution may be far more open than monogamy, but it is limited by the confines of marriage. Cheating is not to be overlooked.

Can you blame Phumelele for being jealous and harsh on Lethu? Shouldn’t she have prepared herself for the possibility of a new wife? Is Sengwayo a cheater?
