As we excitedly await what season 17 has in store, let’s take a walk down memory lane and relive the moments that set the tone for Idols SA Season 16.

Laughter is undisputedly the best medicine, and we all needed a dose of it in 2020! Jozi auditions didn’t disappoint, and Buhle Mda of The Soil got a taste of some laughable performances in Jozi – and she could not handle!

Some of the Wooden Mic-worthy showings left her in stitches and the underside of the table soon became her refuge as she perished from laughter; her chuckles becoming the background vocals to hilarious performances. She ensured that there was no dry eye in the room – specifically Unathi’s eyes, which we all know are never short of tears!

She’s travelled the world, sung on a lot of stages, and earned herself plenty of accolades, but her experience on Idols got her immortalised as a popular meme – surely one of her greatest achievements!

You’d didn’t think things could get any funnier, but they did! Somizi put his clothes on the line when he made a bet with his fellow judges that he would streak if a contestant didn’t get a Golden Ticket – and he lost. Guest judge Cassper Nyovest and Idols fans then got to see the gold number that was under all his designer wear!

And to close things off on a sweet note, how could we possibly forget Vhudie, a contestant who dared to dream and sang his own song, despite how Randall feels about self-penned tunes. But his song ‘My Yoki Yoki’ was an instant hit with the judges, prompting Somizi, Buhle and Unathi to harmonise with him as he sang. As if getting the judges involved during his performance wasn’t enough validation, they requested numerous encores!

Vhudie’s gorgeous songwriting and captivating performance bagged him a Golden Ticket and, eventually after he left the show, a number 1 spot on iTunes!

Season 17 of Idols SA broadcasts on Sundays at 17:30 on Mzansi Magic Channel 161, and at 17:00 from the live shows.
