Sibongile Sefatsa (48 years) had no idea she’d meet the love of her life, Israel Sefatsa (56 years) that day she boarded the train that returned her back home for the school holidays.
Tonight, their daughters Dimakatso and Lerato surprised them with the perfect Gift of Love for their 30th wedding anniversary.
According to the Sefatsa siblings, their parents met in 1987. Their father was one of the railway security officers at the train station. “Mom was 19 years at that time and was returning home for the school holidays. I think my dad felt sorry for her because she was carrying a lot of bags.”
They said their parents signed a marriage certificate at the commissioner’s offices in 1989. “What inspires me about mom and dad is their love and how they take care of each other,” said Lerato.
Dimakatso chipped in saying their parents complement each other. “Mom is very loud, and dad is soft spoken. So, they complement each other,” she said.
They further said their parents didn’t have a white wedding because their dad had only been working for two years at that time, so they didn’t have much money to cover everything.
“They signed and had a lobola ceremony. Dad proposed with one of those rings from children’s lucky packets and mom has always said she doesn’t like the ring,” said Lerato.
The Sefatsa siblings said one of the first things they would get their mom would be the ring, and of course the wedding gown!
