In celebration of 37 years of love
Mlin

Mlindeni Madonda (65) and Fikile Madonda (60 years) met in 1975 when she was visiting a friend and he knew she was the one. “I knew she was the one I had been waiting for all along to be my bride.”

Fikile didn’t take him seriously at all, as she thought he was just being a typical man. But he waited for a year, before she would agree to dating him. “Mlindeni persisted for a year and I realised he was serious, and I agreed.”

They have been married since 1989, but they came across many challenges before that. Mlindeni realized that his lobola money was missing, it seemed his brother has stolen R800 for lobola money. This pastor then gave him the money to marry the women of his dreams. “R800 doesn’t seem like a lot now, but back then, a cow cost R350.” The two have been married for 37 years now and are ready to renew their wedding vows. Mam Fikile is excited as she hired her first wedding dress and Bab’Mlindeni didn’t get a wedding ring.

Mam Fikile says she loves that Bab’Mlindeni is a church going man, they have raised their family in church. They had a few hiccups when Mlindeni had a mistress, but they have managed to overcome that too. “Because we’re Christians, we all know it’s in the past.”

Bab’Mlindeni has also nursed Mam Fikile back to health, cooking for her, cleaning for her and attending to the household when she was in poor health. They have been through it all, in sickness and in health!

This Sunday, they celebrate their 37-year anniversary in style! An entire wedding fit for a queen and king. Join them in the journey of love.
