A bucket list item for some, and a big miss for others.

In a world where technology often takes centre stage and the hustle and bustle of daily life can drown out the whispers of nature, the idea of returning to basics becomes increasingly appealing.

This week the theme is "Back to Basics," and housemates shared about their experiences with one of the most primal forms of outdoor living: camping. The housemates answered the question: Have you been camping before?

Cheunzaaa answered with a resounding, "Yes!" Recounting a recent camping trip to a music & lifestyle festival in Cape Town, Cheunzaaa reminisced about the beauty and fun of the experience, particularly highlighting the joy of arriving to find his tent already set up, adding a touch of convenience to the adventure. Luckily for him, no tents are needed this week, which should make the experience just as convenient and adventurous. ⛺

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Els adamantly declared, "Nope". Preferring the comforts of indoor living, Els cited a distaste for bugs and animals as reasons for avoiding the great outdoors. When Sinaye asked her this morning about her camping experience, she said the S'ya Mosha experience was her first time sleeping outdoors. We're proud to be her first 😊

Lerato Modise, however, offered a positive affirmation, sharing fond memories of a Grade 6 leadership camp. Despite being put on the spot to sing, Lerato Modise embraced the experience wholeheartedly. Liema echoed her sentiment, expressing a desire for the connection with nature that camping provides. For Liema, camping is not just an activity but an opportunity to immerse oneself fully in the natural world.

Makhekhe's dislike for camping stemmed from a different source. Humjourously citing an abundance of horror movies featuring camping trips gone wrong. "I’ve never done camping, he confirmed".  McJunior expressed a similar sentiment, noting a lack of opportunity as the reason behind his camping virginity.

Meelay's reluctance to camp stems from a fear of the unknown, particularly the prospect of encountering wildlife. However, Meelay said she's open to the idea on condition that she's surrounded by trusted companions.

Mich and Mpumi both admitted to have never been offered the chance to camp, with Mpumi saying she's not really interested in the activity.
PapaGhost, on the other hand, fondly recalled past camping experiences from "a very long time ago", highlighting a love for nature and a distaste for crowded spaces as driving forces behind the enjoyment of camping.

Sinaye's enthusiastic affirmation of camping reflected a deep-seated love for the outdoors, while Taki reminisced about school trips that offered a taste of camping life, albeit with the comfort of beds. Meanwhile, Sinaye has been excited about the week's theme and has asked a lot of the housemates how they are experiencing the camp.

Head of House Willy confessed to never having gone camping but expressed a desire to do so, citing the logistical challenges of preparation as a deterrent. He has added it to his 2024 bucket list and during his HoH reign, he gets to enjoy camping.

Yolanda, despite never been camping, remained open-minded, expressing a willingness to try it in the future. She might have changed her mind as she expressed her dislike for the person who came up with the idea for a camp.

Lastly, Young Pappi and Zee shared positive camping experiences, with the former recounting a team-building excursion with international students in the United States of America and the latter revelling in the joys of tent assembly, campfire stories, and hiking adventures.
