The studio clashes got off to an explosive start yesterday when the female choirmasters and their teams faced off. The theme was choirmasters' hits, and each choirmaster was assigned a song by one of their fellow choirmasters, and free reign to get as creative as they wanted with arrangement and performance.

Team Busiswa from KZN was up first, and they were super amped to be assigned Free State choirmaster Sfiso Ncwane's Kulungile Baba. They started off with a smooth intro that showed off their beautiful harmonies, before going up-tempo with a slightly raggae beat. It got a satisfactory reception from the judges, while Sfiso Ncwane loved the arrangement and confessed to wanting to using it in future.

KZN had set the bar, and it was up to the Eastern Cape to match or surpass it. They were assigned JR's So Hot. In keeping with the owner's hip hop style, the choir chose to don some colourful hip hop street gear to perform. A nervous Bucie gave them a pep talk before they hit the stage, urging them to do their best. Their performance got a lukewarm reception from the judges, and they looked visibly disappointed.

Last to perform was Gauteng's own Team Kelly, and they were assigned Busiswa's Ngoku, a club banger house song with no singing in the original song. What a challenge! But Team Kelly stepped up to the plate, and clad in cute red and white outfits, delivered a performance that brought the house down and prompted a standing ovation from Busiswa and Zwai.

Next week it's the male choirmasters' turn. Will team JR, Team Penny Penny, Team iFani and Team Sfiso Ncwane rise to the challenge?
