The goodbyes that left us shook – Ithonga

News31 October 2025
Our faves that left an impact.
Ithonga

One thing about Ithonga? It will bring us characters we can’t help falling in love with, and soon enough we go hard for our faves. Here are characters who made an impact and then suddenly, we were left reeling from their departure.

Banele

Banele was the rebel that kept the Magwaza family thriving; even though unpredictable, we admired his bravery and boldness, as well as his relationship with his loved ones and loyalty to bloodlines. When his life was tragically taken, just as he was celebrating his engagement to Zama, we were left in our feelings.

See how it all ended here:

MaThuli

MaThuli came in guns blazing, with a mission to change things in eZulwini, as the new chairperson awarding the water tender. However, it also put her in a dangerous position when she awarded it to the Magwazas. She stood for what was right and fair for the community, but that meant the corrupt organisations needed to deal with her. Unfortunately, she paid the price for doing the right thing.

See the tragedy here:

Nkosinathi

Nkosinathi came in with the drama, as the Dladla’s firstborn son who certainly moved to the beat of his own drum. He brought with him a troublesome makoti who gave MaBhele sleepless nights. There was also beef with his brother, Lethu. But just as he made peace with Lethu, he was tragically taken away: being a hero on his sister’s wedding day.

See all the drama he and Iminathi caused here:

Gadla

Gadla was the ultimate villain, the one we loved to hate, with his designer clothes and unbothered attitude. He entered the chat and shook things up okay. He gave the mighty Pablo a run for his money when he blackmailed him and convinced him to give up his only daughter in an arranged marriage. Can we say drama? Honestly, we’re going to miss the chaos he caused on the streets of eZulwini.

Watch his final moments here:

Sanele

The good brother who was trying his best to fill the gap his twin brother left behind. He was honourable and just, becoming ruthless only when he needed to keep the family business afloat. He had many challenges but faced them even if it meant sacrificing his own marriage. Unfortunately, Gadla came for his revenge on his wedding day, leaving his life hanging by a thread.

iThonga reminds us why we tune in week after week: for the love, loyalty, chaos, and heartbreak that keep eZulwini alive. Some stories may have ended, but their impact will linger long after the credits roll.
