This December, Mzansi Wethu hands the mic to South African male artists in a brand-new show titled Man & The Mic which premieres Sunday, 14 December at 18:00, inviting audiences to witness an intimate celebration of resilience, artistry, and healing through music.
Man & The Mic is a soul-baring voyage where music becomes the language of vulnerability and strength. It’s a format that blends diary-like revelations, heartfelt conversations with family and friends, and studio performances that crystallise the moment a song becomes a lifeline. Each episode spotlights South Africa’s top male singers as they lay bare the trials, tribulations, failures, pain and most vividly, the triumphs that have forged their sound.
Every artist takes centre stage with a signature moment: a full track, a stripped-down verse, or a transformative mashup that mirrors their truth. These performances offer a rare window into the person behind the artist – the hunger and hustle of beginnings, the intricate layers of identity, the masks we wear, and the moments that turn struggle into song.
