1. Siyabonga Thwala – Ngwadi (eHostela)
Nominated for: Best Actor in a TV Drama
Nominated for: Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama
There’s not a single doubt that versatile actor, Siyabonga Thwala is a force to be reckoned with in the South African entertainment industry. Known and loved for roles including tagxi boss Mpiyakhe Zungu (Isibaya), and ruthless gangster Ngwadi (eHostela) Thwala’s work remains recognised throughout Mzansi. This year he is nominated twice for Best Actor in a TV Drama and Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama. Here's why:
2. Siphesihle Ndaba – Mazet (Gomora)
Nominated for: Best Supporting Actress in a Telenovela
She joined Gomora as a newbie, joining industry giants such as Connie Chiume, Katlego Danke, Zolisa Xaluva, Thembi Seete etc. and made a name for herself as Mazet, Mam’Sonto’s adopted daughter and trusted crew member.
We watched Mazet’s character transform from being Mam’Sonto’s sidekick, to beating paralysis, falling in love (with Zibuko) and only to sadly meeting her death after a fight with Thathi.
3. Thulani Mtsweni – Bongani (Gomora)
Nominated for: Best Supporting Actor in a Telenovela
Also known for his role as Mpihlangene Zungu (Isibaya) and many other popular roles, Mtsweni has captured many hearts as Bongani “Shisanyama” Zwide on Gomora and Mzansi will agree that there’s no Bongani without Zodwa, LOL!
4. Khaya Mthembu – Sbonga (Gomora)
Nominated for: Best Supporting Actor in a Telenovela
Is there a character as spineless as Sbonga in Gomora though? Khaya Mthembu is also known for his roles in Isithembiso and Is’thunzi and his portrayal of Sbonga is so believable, such that Mzansi has even named him “sbari makoti” because he is such a weakling, in a hilarious kinf of way.
5. Ayanda Daweti – Sizwe (Gomora)
Nominated for: Best Supporting Actor in a Telenovela
Gomora’s Sizwe, played by Ayanda Daweti, went from being Qhoqhoqho’s errand boy to Gomora High School head boy and car wash co-owner. It was touch and go for a moment though, but he managed to leave the life of crime and focus on school.
