Mzansi Bioskop is shining the spotlight on the power of local storytelling festival starting this April. The festival will carry out a special theme for April titled “AmaSequel Aserious” and is dedicated to profile filmmakers and the young vibrant talent that are shaping Mzansi’s creative future.
Airing every Sunday at 19:00, it brings together a fascinating roster of proudly local titles that reflect the diversity and richness of various aspects of Mzansi life. By providing a platform for local producers, writers, directors, and on-air talent, it also plays a significant role in industry skills development, job creation, and creative growth.
Here’s a line-up of the movies coming up in April:
05 April - Shela Sisi
A 21-year-old student from Soweto Technical College finds herself love-struck by a new student on campus. Battling with the idea of taking a chance, she decides to follow the three steps of a relationship influencer. Starring Nombulelo Mpungose, Ntando Mazibuko, Yandisa Khumalo, and Zinhle Xuma.
12 April - Lil Bandz 2: Umculo Nob’cwebe
Two struggling Maskandi artists set out to honour their late collaborator’s legacy. However, when their viral song finally brings them success, they quickly descend into recklessness, losing sight of their purpose. Starring Kere Nyawo, Thulani Didi, and Yololwethu Makhathu.
19 April - Secret Weapon 2
After returning from Europe, Bongi is recruited by a top chef to help revitalise a Michelin-starred restaurant. When her first menu fails, she shares her fine-dining pop-up concept inspired by African street food. Starring Thobeka Ndwandwe, Tyson Mathonsi, Sithabile Mngadi, and Phumzile Kubeka.
26 April – Lerato Wethu
A coming-of-age comedy about Lerato, a bright teen who is secretly passionate about robotics but is studying nursing to honour her late mother. Starring Boikanyo Bothlale, Nkateko Mabunda, Tshiamo Molobi, and Alex Sono.
Tune in every Sunday at 19:00 for heartfelt drama, comedy, romance and high-energy sequels on Mzansi Bioskop (DStv Channel 164), and celebrate stories that are proudly and unapologetically Mzansi.
The festival continues in May, viewers can look forward to another themed collection of films such as Umkhwenyana Use’bharini (3 May), Spy Makhelwane 2 (10 May), Lekompo 2 (17 May), Mamazala 2 (24 May), and Masibe Umndeni (31 May).
